Our Mischief Athlete of the Month for March 2020 is another Mischief Member whose CrossFit experience began at one of our very first 6 Week Challenge beginners programs: Alejandro (“Alex”) Cabrera. Alex was not a stranger to fitness when he enrolled in our introductory CrossFit course. In fact, he had been working as a personal trainer at LA Fitness for about a year. Motivated by his own weight loss goals and a general fascination with various aspects of fitness—especially movement and nutrition—Alex decided to see for himself whether CrossFit could help him improve his general athleticism and overall strength. Alex has done that, and more, since joining our small community in April of 2017. During his time at CrossFit Mischief, Alex has lost 50 pounds, performed his first bar and ring muscle-ups, completed two Memorial Day “Murph” WODs, podiumed at a Mischief in-house competition, developed lifting proficiency in both powerlifting and weightlifting movements, and participated in multiple Spartan Races.
As much as Alex likes to give credit to “the guidance and professionalism of the coaches at CrossFit Mischief” for his fitness achievements, his hard work and commitment to technique are the most significant contributing factors. Alex has become a student of movement at CrossFit Mischief, and this has helped him stay light on his feet while tending to clients at Vitamin World, where he is a Nutritional Advisor with a certification in fitness nutrition. At his job, Alex can combine his passions for sport, fitness, and nutrition in a way that helps others make lifestyle improvements. A little known fact about Alex is that he has been transitioning over the past few years to a plant-based diet, and he attributes this practice to setting the foundation for the physical demands of CrossFit. It is no wonder that one of Alex’s biggest fitness inspirations is Kendrick Ferris, a weightlifter who has represented the United States at the Olympic Games and also utilizes a plant-based diet. Congratulations, Alex! We are happy to have you at CrossFit Mischief.
