September 2025 Member of the Month Balaji

Balaji has been doing CrossFit for over 2 years, starting his journey 1.5 years before joining Mischief 8 months ago. Since stepping through our doors, he’s shown an unwavering drive to become stronger and better every day.

His dedication, consistency, and positive attitude make him an inspiration in our community. Balaji not only pushes himself to improve but also encourages and inspires those around him, making every class better just by being there.

We’re proud to celebrate Balaji as our September Athlete of the Month — keep up the amazing work!

What motivated you to start CrossFit?

I wanted a challenging, structured way to push myself beyond the typical gym routine — and CrossFit seemed like the perfect blend of strength, cardio, and grit.

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started CrossFit at CF Mischief a little over 8 months ago (I started in Jan 2025). However, I previously did CrossFit for 1.5 years in Downtown Chicago between May 2021 and Feb 2023. I took a break because life happened.

How has CrossFit improved your daily life?

I have noticeably more energy, mental clarity, and confidence in tackling tough situations both inside and outside the gym.

How do you stay consistent with your training?

By treating class like a non-negotiable appointment and reminding myself how much better I feel afterward. There are times (especially after work) when it is hard and I push myself to go to the gym and from then it is the community & people around me at the gym who inspire and motivate me.

What do you like most about CrossFit Mischief?

The supportive coaches and community — everyone welcomes hard work with a smile, they encourage and motivate you to push harder but within your boundaries and limits and that keeps me coming back.

What is one goal you hope to achieve with joining CrossFit?

To build long-term strength and endurance that carry me into my 40s and beyond.

Favorite CrossFit exercise?

Deadlifts.

Favorite healthy snack?

My Protein Smoothie (Strawberry Mylk Protein Powder), Greek yogurt with berries, chia seeds, and a hint of coffee powder.

Favorite cheat food?

Desserts - I have a sweet tooth. I cheat once every week and we typically go out to restaurants one day of the weekend. However, I still portion control my cheat meals as well.

One Interesting fact about yourself?

I am scared of cats.

I visited the gym a few days as a Drop In while traveling through the area. Very friendly and welcoming coaches and members. I will definitely come back next time I’m in the area.

I recently restarted CrossFit after a 6 year hiatus. I tried several different gyms, but just couldn’t find my community… until I walked into CrossFit Mischief. This is a great group of humans all around. From the coaches to the members. Eve
